can I set a default font for the text box?

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

Every time I open a text box, the default font is Times. I'd like to change it. An answer was posted previously, but it doesn't work. It said, "Click on the slide (avoiding any object) and then choose your font." But when I do that, the font choice is greyed-out; I can't choose it.
My work-around is to change the font every time I open a new text box. That's ridiculous. There MUST be a better way. (Why is it so hard to figure this out? Shouldn't it be obvious?)

I wish someone would answer this request. I have been trying
unsuccessfully to change the default since ppt version X.

The font used in a Text Box (2008) is based on whatever Theme is used in the
presentation unless the Slide Master is modified. There isn't any global
setting for the default font of Text Boxes themselves. You can also create
your own Themes.

In any given file, however, you can format a text box then
Control/Right+Click it & choose Set as Default Text Box. Any additional
shapes containing text you create in that file will be formatted the same
way.

You can also add a formatted shape to the Scrapbook & drag copies of it into
any files you wish.

That's unfortunate, but not particularly surprising.

Hi,

In PowerPoint 2008 when you right click on the border of a text box you
will be offered:
Set as Default Text Box

In PowerPoint 2004 you will be offered:
Set AutoShape Defaults

Text placeholders have the same options.

As was previously mentioned, in 2008 you can save themes easily from the
Formatting Palette and apply themes from the palette.

You can also use View > Master > Slide Master and set the default text
for text placeholders for the presentation.

You can customize the menus and toolbars and put favorite fonts on them.
