I am working on a project which a same group of tasks will be concurrently
happened in several cities. I created a project plan that tasks grouped by
city(I put city's name as a summary task) and assign 4 city's job to 1
resource.
On <PWA-My Assignments> view, resources can see all their tasks under this
Project Name, but can not see the Summary Task level. I even tried to insert
a Text1 field on my assignments view and group tasks by this attribute,
however the data entered in <Project_Professional - column text1> are not
published to this field in PWA.

Question:
1- How can I present tasks by 3 level as <Project Name> - <Summary Task
Name> - <Task Name>?
2- Is it true that some attributes in professional will not be published to
PWA?

Thanks in advance,

JJin

Hi JJn

In regards to question 1:
Witin My task you cannot display the summary task. You can drill down to the
task detail and see the the summary task there, but unfortunalty not directly
on the My task page

Question 2
The answer is yes, some fields cant be publised to Project Server.
Generally, as long as the custom fields are enterprise custom fields you will
be able to display them in PWA.

Hope this helps

Hi, Marc,

1-Do you mean on My Assignments view, the tasks only present in 2 tiers:
Project name and bottom tier tasks name?
2-In my case (a same group tasks will be executed in multi-cities), what is
the best practise to show team members which task is in which city on
My_Assignment view?

Thanks in advance,

JJin

H JJin,
1, normally it is called "My task", but that may have been rewordred in your
instance, so the answer is yes.
2. I understand the issue. The actual task name should represent the city,
that could resolve the issue
Hope this helps

Thank you, Marc. I understand. I just tried to find a smarter way and avoid
repeating city name on more than 1200 lines... But, seems its the only way to
go... :(

JJin:

We're developing a web part that will alter the My Tasks page to display
Summary tasks. It gives you a bunch of other options as well. We should have
this available before the end of the year. We expect to offer it at $99.00.

local custom fields will not be published. So, if a user enters information
in the text1 field for their proejct, it will not be published because it is
local. However, if you create an enterprise text field, that field will be
published. So, for example, you could create an enterprise custom field at
the task level called State and then add that to your My Assignments view.
You would still need to edit each task but you could just fill down this
field instead of renaming each task. I hope I have not confused you. Good
luck.

Hi, Gary,

I tested it. Unfortunately, It doesn't work.
I created a Enterprise Customs Field, insert this field into Project
Professional Gantt Chart Enter Table and PWA-My Assignments view, enter city
name in this field from Professional, save and publish it. At PWA-My
Assignments view, this field shows blank. Instead, I have added city name in
front of all tasks, anyway, it always works.

But, I am wondering if you could help me on another case regarding to
Project-Outlook add ins? I openned a case yesterday, case name "Outlook add
in error for project server 2007".
Thanks in advance,

JJin

A cpouple things about using a custom field this way. You must:

Use a Task text field with a value list
Select to rolldown to assignment level
Expose the field in a task view within the Project client and publish with
that view applied
Edit the My tasks page to show the field
