Can I specify position on page of enlarged photogallery jpg

At present when thumbnail is clicked in photo gallery the large jpg appears
on a white background top left. Can I specify position for the pic to appear
and can I have a background colour?

Only if you create a page that contains each large image and then link to the page from the thumbnail.
