Can I stop formatting changes from appearing in "track changes"?

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Under track changes preferences, I have "none" selected, yet formatting changes still show up when I chose to display the changes in balloons. I can accept most of the formatting changes in order to eliminate the balloons, but sometimes I click to "accept" 10 or 20 times, but the balloon won't go away.

I realize that this is only a problem with balloons, but my pagination gets messed up if I don't use balloons.

Yes: Turn off "Keep track of formatting".

Or set the "mark" for "Changed Formatting" to "None".

There is a Search in Word Preferences which will find these for you.

Cheers

Wow! That's new... That's a bug.

If you are not tracking formatting, there should be no indication at all,
either with or without balloons...

I'll put that in for you.

Cheers

I've done both those things to no avail.

Hi John;

It may be a 'bug', but it would be a sin of omission rather than one of
faulty operation... I think you may be construing Mac Word's Preference
settings for Track Changes with those on the Dark Side :)?

In Mac Word's Track Changes Preferences there is no option to exclude
tracking of formatting changes. You most definitely can set the *markup* for
formatting to None but the formatting changes are still tracked & the
balloons will still appear... The content itself simply doesn't get marked
in the text. If you go back later & choose a markup option the formatting
changes which occurred previously will receive that markup.

Win Word 2007 has a check in the settings to not track the formatting
changes at all. However, 2003 & prior work the same as the Mac versions.

Also, the "Keep Track of Formatting" setting in the Edit Preferences &
Options [AFAIK] is independent of Track Changes. My understanding is that it
only controls the population of the Formatting Palette/Task Pane.

Just for yuks ... I repaired permissions, installed the latest Office update, deleted the .plist files for both Office and Word ... and no change in behavior.

OK, "Bug of omission" then :)

Still doesn't work right. Still a bug. :)

I am occasionally an idiot, and I didn't realize that there was an option to omit the display of formatting changes. When I turn off that display, everything works fine ...
