can i turn off automatic style creation in Word?

O

old spice

Word will append an existing style with the latest change, e.g., "Side Bar
Text + Italic" and i'd like to turn off this feature to keep consistent look
and feel of long doc. i format, others write/edit. don't want creation of
verboten styles. any way to restrict the doc to only approved styles? and
perhaps display a dialog box when they break the law (something like "YOU ARE
ATTEMPTING TO CREATE A NEW STYLE. STOP. WE CONTROL THE HORIZONTAL. WE CONTROL
THE VERTICAL. GET BACK TO WRITING).

thanks

What you're seeing isn't really a style, just "formatting." If you don't
want to see this, clear the "Keep track of formatting" check box on the Edit
tab of Tools | Options. If you are using Word 2003, you can limit the way
styles are used/created.
