Can I type text around an auto-shape (oval)?

Using Word, have placed one oval inside another. How can I type text so it
curves round between the two, either inside the outer one or outside the
inner one?

You can't. Word doesn't do text along a path.

In Word the way to do this is to use WordArt. Select one of the simpler
layouts to begin with, and enter the text you want. Re-select the WordArt
object, and click the WordArt Shape button on the floating toolbar (in Word
2007, it's the Change WordArt Shape button in the bottom right corner of the
WordArt Styles group of the WordArt Tools ribbon). Select one of the
circular shapes. Drag the edges of the shape's bounding box until the text
matches the size and shape of the oval you want.

The alternative is to create the curved text in another program, such as
Corel Draw, and import it into Word as a single graphic object.

Many thanx to Jay Freedman. You're right--it takes some practice, but that's
just the effect I wanted!
