I need an office program with access & I purchased 2007 office professional,
could I just use the upgrade for '07 instead of the whole new program?

You can use any Office '03 version (except a unlicensed trial) as a
qualifier for the upgrade '07 Professional if in fact you bought an upgrade
'07 and not a full version.

If you want to know if you can install just Access and keep the remainder of
Office '03 on the computer, yes you can. You will be asked during the
install if you want to keep the old programs, just tell it not to overwrite
the old files. This will put the Word, PPT & Excel programs side by side
(you can use either the '03 or '07 version of Word, Excel or PPT) or you can
do the custom install and not have Word, Excel, Outlook, or PPT '07
installed by unchecking those programs during the custom install. You can
only have one version of Outlook installed and unless you tell Pro not to
install Outlook '07 it will overwrite your '03 Outlook but save all your
settings.

Read all the program's instructions on screen before you check anything.

Like any other major system work, have a good backup of all data files (and
better yet a full system backup) before proceeding incase Murphy's law kicks
in.
