Using Win XP and Office 2002

Can I upgrade to Outlook 2007 while maintaining all of my outlook data?

Will my other 2002 applications be affected?

Thanks,
Bernie

Yes, you can do this but I would recommend starting with a new mail profile;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

After this, instead of setting your original pst-file as the default mail
delivery location, only connect to it by File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...
After connecting you can move your emails from your orignal pst-file to the
newly created Inbox, Outbox, Contacts, etc... folder. This way you'll be
using the new UNICODE pst-file format instead of the old ANSI format.

Office 2002 applications cannot integrate with Outlook 2007 so some
integration functionality (like Word's mail merge) will no longer work.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the reply.

What is a mail profile, is that something new in Outlook 2003 or 2007. I
don't believe i've ever set one up in Outlook 2002.

Would it be better (i.e easier to upgrade) to upgrade my whole office
software to Office 2007 (from 2002)

Thanks,
Bernie

A mail profile holds all your mail settings. When going from one version to
another I highly recommend recreating it. Mail profiles are automatically
created when your first start Outlook but are updated when changing version.
This sometimes can lead to some weird errors or issues. Mail profiles are
not something new for Outlook and can be found in the Control Panel-> Mail
applet. The guide will help you through the process and otherwise you can
always post back here.

If you've got the resources (time, money, computer specs, etc...) to update
the entire Office suite to 2007 I would recommend to do so. Not just for
compatibility purposes but also because of the fact that Office 2002/XP is
no longer in mainstream support. I would recommend to uninstall Office 2002
completely first via Control Panel-> Add/Remove Programs before installing
Office 2007. If you use the update feature of Office 2007 to remove Office
2002 there will be some Office 2002 components left on your system which
could cause a conflict.
