Can I upgrade from Word 97 to 2007 without intermediate steps?

Ok, it's ten years and I like the test drive of the new office 07. But --
can I upgrade directly from 97? I can follow directions and am not totally
stupid, but am not completely techno either. I don't want to have to mess
with a lot of patches, try this, or other stuff -- just a nice smooth
upgrade. Possible?

Thanks, Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Unfortunately, Office 97 is a not a qualifying product for the upgrade editions of MS Office 2007. Office 2000 is the oldest one
supported for that purpose, so unless you have a copy of MS Works that is newer than Office 97 you'd need to purchase the full
product copy of Office 2007. You can use the pricing and Suite Comparison links on http://office.microsoft.com/suites for
additional information on your options there.

Whether you can upgrade from Office/Word 97 will depend, among other things <g>, on your computer's capability and Windows version
as well. You may want to review the requirements for that as listed here
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101668651033.aspx

Office 2007 can certainly be a replacement for Office 97. When upgrading or modifying any software on your PC always back up your
documents and important files first of course :) Whether the upgrade goes without 'glitches' can depend on a number of other
variables including how old other software, or printer and graphic card drivers are on your PC, or add-ins to Word, etc. Other
software that is of the same vintage era as Office 97 may also need to be updated or replaced to more current versions.
