Can I use my pen tablet to make notes?

You can use it for input but it will be treated as normal
mouse input. The ability to perform handwriting
recognition and to search through handwritten notes comes
from the Ink data features of the Tablet PC OS.

You can write, but all of the input will still be
considered as one huge picture.

You will not have the same Ink experience, besides the Tablet PC Edition
superset is only available on OEM machines or via an MSDN subscription for
development purposes only. Tablets have digitizers in the screens which
recognize the position of the pen and sample at a rate three or four times
faster than a mouse "sample."
