I have Office Ultimate 2007 on my computer -- retail version with product
kery. My computer crashedf. While it is being repaired, I purchasrd a
netbook (with NO CD drive) to use until repaired computer is returned.

Netbook has trial version of Office. How can I convert the trial version
into a regular version of Office using the same product key. When I enter
that 25-digit number, it is returned as "invalid".

Again, I do not have a CD drive in the netbook -- so I can't do a fresh
installation.

Anyone?

Continue to use the trial version on the netbook until your regular computer
comes back. Then copy the files on the Office installation DVD to a USB
drive. Uninstall the trial version before installing the purchased version.
If you can't wait use a computer at a library or something to copy the DVD
to the USB drive. Then install on the netbook from the USB drive.

Your Office Ultimate that is on and installed your crashed computer comes with a
single install license. If you try to install it as per the suggested USB drive then
you cannot install it back on your Desktop until you remove it from your Laptop and
vica versa.
As suggested in your other post that was multiposted you cannot use the retail
license to activate a Trial version.Just use the Trial version until your desktop
comes back from the shop

Peter, since the OP said he has a retail version, it can be installed on
both the desktop and netbook at the same time because the retail license
allows for installation on a primary device and a portable device for the
exclusive use of the primary user of the primary device. If it had been a
volume licensed version then he could install up to the total licenses held.

The exact wording is: "
1. RETAIL LICENSE TERMS ...
2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a
license, you must assign that license to one device. That device is the
“licensed device.†A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a
separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on
the licensed device.
b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for
use by the single primary user of the licensed device."

I understand that quite well LVTravel. But. His other post which he posted before
this one in another newsgroup tells another story. Hence my answer to this post of
the OP here

Here is his other post

first of all, sorry for the multiple posts. i didn't realize that it would
reach the same group.

i believe it is correct that my license permits installation on two devices
(for the exact reason of the problem that i have encountered.

but, i still do not know why, when i entered the product number, that it was
declared invalid. i still do not know how to activate a regular copy of
Office on my netbook.

Ideas?

You cannot use a Retail key and especially one from another version of Office to
activate a Trial version of Office FPS.
Go to a friends house or similar and copy you Office CD over to a Flash or USB drive
and use that media to install.

You can convert a trial version to a perpetual version using a retail
license key BUT the key must be for the same edition as the trial. So for
example, if you have Home and Student 2007 on your netbook and a license for
Office 2007 Ultimate then it won't work.

Your best option is to get an external CD/DVD drive, uninstall the trial
version of Office, and then install Office Ultimate. Plus you never know
when you'll want to add additional software and the installation media is CD
only.

Regardless of how you end up getting Office installed it's important you
uninstall the trial version first. Otherwise you may be back here wondering
why your fresh Office installation isn't working properly. ;-)

thank you for all your helpful directions. i finally went to microsoft, and
their directions solved the problem successfully. they told me to delete the
trial software. then download the version of Office that I have a product
key for -- and insert that product key before the install is done.

It worked!!
