Can I use Project for my work

I am trying to find out if MS Project might be usefull for my job. W
organize the transport of material oversees. Let s say we have 8 tug
and 6 barges. There are 3 loading ports for 1 offloading port. No
every couple of days I look at the status of the barges and the tugs
and then manually link tug, barge and port to obtain a good circulatio
of the transports. Can Project help me find the optimal combination o
these 3 variables, and make a planning based o
sailing/loading/offloading times?
Or do you know another program which might be usefull for me?

Hi,

I'm sorry but you ask for exactlty the thing Project doesn't do - assign
resources to tasks
And unfortunately I don't know any other SW doing that easily (I wish I did)

It's not a good fit. The problem being that Project is used to do projects,
which have a finite duration. Your application is ongoing work. I'd try
googling to see if you can find something that allocates resources across
ongoing work. The tricky part is what to Google for. But I'd be surprised
if there isn't something out there to do what you need.

Just this small extra thought.
For projects as well, Project does not solve this problem of assigning
resources to tasks.
