Can I view Tasks assigned to my team members by default

Hi,

I have the project manager and administrator roles on the project
server. I am evaluating this product and have a few questions.

1. Can I see my team's tasks in any view. When I go to My Tasks I can
only see my tasks. As a workaround I changed the team's users
assignment owner to myself. Now in My Tasks I could see all the team
members tasks. But logically if I am the project manager I should be
able to see the team member's task by default. I thought there should
have been a view that I am probably not aware of. Please let me know
if there is a view like that.

2. From # 1 above what I wanted to achieve is that as a Project
Manager that I should be able to update team member's tasks if they
fail to do so. I can create a Surrogate timesheet for my team member
but I cannot import their timesheet on to their tasks to update their
tasks. Again logically this should have been a default feature but I
am not able to see such an option. Maybe I am missing something.

Thanks,
Kamlesh.

Kamlesh,

The PM can see resource assignments from the project plan or resource
center. My Tasks is used for status updates and as such only provides
details of those assignments where the user is the assignment owner.

If the team members don't update their tasks, then you need a process
external to the tool to manage this. Also, how will the PM now how much time
to apply to those tasks not updated ?

As a last resort, the PM can apply actual work in the resource usage view in
winproj.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for a quick reply.

To answer your question - Also, how will the PM know how much time to
apply to those tasks not updated ?

So what I was thinking was all the team members should record their
time using the timesheet. That's all they should do and the PM should
approve the timesheet.

Now the PM should import the team member's timesheets to update these
tasks. I wanted to have that control as I don't want team members to
update the task without the consent of their team leads or me (PM). I
don't know if this is making sense but I don't want a team member with
little knowledge of metrics to corrupt my data. I understand that I
can always approve or reject the task update.

Thanks,
Kamlesh.
