Can modify my installation options after Service Pack 3

A

Aldo

Running Office 2003 in a Windows XP environment.
I used Microsoft Document Imaging Writer for my everyday work. After an
automatic Service Pack 3 installation, MDIW's printer dissappeared. I tried
to reinstall it using my Office 2003 CD, but I discover any selection I do is
ignored.
For example, I select to run from my disk all the options (as I used to
before the SP3). I press Update, the computers works for a moment, and then
it says it finished. However, no change is done and if I try to configure
again I see the options remain unchanged.
I corrected this uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2003 from CD running
all from my HD, and then installing the SP2. It worked fine, but then an
automatic upgrade to SP3 reverted to the problems described.
What do you suggest? I'm thinking in reinstalling Office and SP2, and then
blocking SP3 somehow, but this shouldn't be necessary in my option
Thanks in advance

Interesting, service pack 3 shouldn't be removing the document writer
printer driver. The only thing it should be doing is removing the registry
keys to the .mdi/.tif type where you can't double click on them in the file
system to review them. (See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938813/ on how
to restore*.)

/neo

* The instructions didn't work for me because the file types are missing
from Windows Explorer. I found it easier to go into the registry via
regedit and correct manually. Below is a reg extract of what needs to be
added back to be able to double click on a mdi/tif to see it in the viewer.
(@ = (Default) in regedit)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdi]
@="MSPaper.Document"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tif]
@="MSPaper.Document"

Thank you very much for your answer.
I know that it shouldn't remove the DWPD. I also knew the kb you refer to. I
also tried the suggestions at
http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=622664 without success (1:
prnmngr.vbs doesn't exist in my machine, 2: I can't customize my install
options, and 3: I don't find MODIW driver as an option).

Again, I don't understand why after SP3 I can't modify my install options.
I already tried installing and reinstalling 3 times, and I'm pretty sure I
can isolate the problem to SP3.
Thanks again for any help

Hmm... try as i might, MODIW doesn't disappear after applying Office 2003
SP3. Out of curiosity, bring up your print/fax folder and then select File
Server properties > Drivers tab. Do you see the MODIW driver listed?

Thanks again for your help. No, I don't see the MODIW driver. I see the MODIW
port only.

Your system is 32bit and not 64... right? Reason I ask is that MODI is not
supported under x64.

The other question is... when Office 2003 was installed, was it installed
using a transform (.MST) file?
