Can multiple shared projects be open and updated at the same time

Our Marketing Managers each have their own Project and they are "shared" in a
master project. Whenever they make a change to their project, it updates in
the master and vice versa. Is there a way to have the Marketing Mgr project
open and updating at the same time as the Master Project?
