Can no longer send emails with Sympatico.

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I've been using Entourage for about 5 months now random issues sending emails. Usually the problems would go away after a day or two and I could resume sending emails. This time the issue won't go away.

My receiving server is pophm.sympatico.ca
My sending server is smtphm.sympatico.ca

I can send and receive emails through sympatico's online website, as well as through Mail. I tried deleting my account from Entourage and recreating, as well as importing from Mail. The issue remains and I cannot send emails with Entourage, however I can receive them.

My account is setup correctly (since I can send through Mail). The error message I receive when attempting to send is:

"An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not a big fan of MS Office Student 2008 for Mac...no macros for excel and all the issues I've had with Entourage.

No worries, I solved the issue myself. I had been using the default port settings for the past few months with little issues, but apparantly it didn't want to work anymore.

I changed the outgoing settings from using the default port to using port 587.

Thanks for letting us know. We've had other reports where security updates
on the servers required the port to be changed, but they failed to notify or
the notification was lost in the spam folder.

Make sure you add the email address for any announcements you get from your
ISP.
