Can no longer update Office 2000

My Office 2000 under ME will no longer allow the updates/downloads to
function. This is very recent and out of the blue problem. The search for
updates stops at 40% and redirects to a MS web page that is nonsensical. I
have tried System Restore and this does't work, nor does "Detect and Repair".
Short of a reinstall which I'm tired of doing and may or may not work, what
can be done to fix this Microsoft problem so that my business records are not
put at risk due to backdated software.

If you're so concerned about "backdated" software, then you should
update to Office 2003 and Windows XP.

Thank you for your help. I will update all of our computers tomorrow. Which
do you recommend - XP Home or XP Pro for us - we have 6000 desktops to do and
need the Office update to work on all of them. Also should we replace our
Pentium 3s. We have 4000 of them.

ROFLMAO! You don't know what to do with the one computer you've got, so
you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near 6000 computers. This is not a
Microsoft problem, and reinstalling Office won't fix it. I've
previously posted the solution to this problem. When you're done with
your pompous editorials, read through this newsgroup's archives.
