Can not add a .mpg movie to my power point presentation?

Hello,
I went nuts for this reason as I have a very important scientific
presentation in an international conference to do next week. As soon as I add
a .mpg movie to a slide, power point shuts itself down and I can not do it. I
use vista and I tried to add a movie both in Office 2003 and 2007, but it
does the same thing. I tried adding the movie by converting it to a .wmv
format, this time it gives an MCI error and doesn't add.
On the other hand I tried adding these both formats in my wife's computer
which is same as mine and has vista and office 2003, it ADDS without a
problem.
What is missing in my laptop? I did all the updates.
Thanks.

Does (the videos added in) the presentation on your wife's computer can be
read on yours

Thanks for your reply.

I looked at that url to download wmp again and repair the codecs if
something ever happened to them, but on that site interestingly there is no
download button for wmp for vista, there is only wmp for XP. Do you know the
right place for vista?

I downloaded PFC and it solved my problem for now as I did add the vidoe to
the slide but it says that is for trial for 14 days. I do not know what to do
after that 14 days as I will be presenting more scientific papers in coming
conferences. :(

I believe anything that you have converted - will still work after 14 days.
If you need to convert any other videos after 14 days - and you find it
useful and a life saver - then probably best to make a purchase :)

Thanks.
Yes it saved my life for now. If it was 10-20 bucks I would purchase, but I
am not willing to pay 130 USD for a service that MS should give with my
previous purchase. There should be a way to add the video to the slide in my
computer, something is missing, I do not know what.

Stupid MS website. No, I can't find a button to download for Vista either.
Ahhh, wait a minute. If you follow the link to download for XP, it actually
lists Vista under 'supported operating systems'. Again with the stupid MS
website.

If that doesn't work, you may want to download a programme called g-spot (be
careful with that googling!) that will tell you exactly what codec is
missing.
