Can not add names to distribution list

My computer crashed completely, running XP with Outlook 2003. I bought a new
one running Vista and reloaded Outlook 2003. The only way to get my contacts
back on the new laptop was to run a sync from my iPhone and it did return all
my contacts to Outlook. However, I can not add any contacts to a new
distribution list because the dialogue box to select from has only the
contacts name without any email address. I have tried some fixes based on
previous answers but to no avail. I hope someone can help!

You would never populate your Contacts folder by syncing to a mobile device.
It will not create valid, resolved email addresses. Restore from a valid
backup of your data.

You say never, but I did. It was my only choice unless I wanted to lose 1000
contacts and their info. I did have an external backup drive but I have no
idea were to look on it for the outlook contact data file and what to do with
it.

Russ,
I was able to resolve this by paying the $49.99 support. This is what they
told me to do. Export my contacts to comma, etc. (windows), delete them and
import them back in. It worked.

You have still lost data. Importing and exporting always do.
How to restore from a backup is posted here every day. Learn how to do it.
The file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the
mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:
