Can not change view in Open File Dialog Window

I'm having a problem when I open the Open file dialog window I can not
change
the view from Icons to anything else. I click the view button, but
nothing
changes. I'd like to have the Details view so I can sort easier.

The version of word is from Office 2003 with all the updates installed.
I also tried to detect and repair from Add/Remove
from the control panel and that did not help either.
