A couple of things you can check:

1. Make sure the resources who will be receiving emails all have a
correct/valid email address.
2. If you have a "from address" configured, make sure it contains an "@"
sign. The address itself doesn't need to be valid, but it must be a proper
format. For instance, you could have the From address be something like
ILoveProject@MyCompany - you don't even need a domain qualifier (like ".com"
or ".net"), but you must have an "@" sign.

If neither of these resolves the issue, then I have one more question:
If you're positive the SMTP server name and port number are correct on the
Alerts and Reminders settings page, then is it possible that the server was
somehow not functioning correctly when the notification was being sent?

Thank you very much for your cooperation.
We've already successfully solved this problem by making an anonymous logon
for the PWA on Exchange server. Everything fine, but in connection with this
we have the following question:

In e-mail notification the text doesn't contain referings to assignments
(i.e. tasks). We have set in PWA properties page to send e-mail notification
in html, but it seems to me these messages doesn't contain any links to
current resource's assignments. Is there any method to insert such links into
the messages? I guess it is a very convenient, isn't it? Why this
functionality had been removed from PWA 2007 in contrast to PWA 2003. :)

I've been told that the links to specific assignments were not there in 2003
either (I have not verified this personally), but there is a post on
http://blogs.msdn.com/project/ that explains why the PWA link itself was
removed from 2007 Alerts, in case that's the URL you are referring to.
There is also information on how to add that link back in if you want it
there. Basically, just type it in the footer and it will be treated as a
hyperlink when it gets emailed.

Hi Andreas

Can you helo explain how you solved this.

I am not much of a exchange guy and would need to request the exchange team
to make required modifications.

We still get the below error.

The user or users have been added successfully, but there was an error
in sending the e-mail message. The server may not be set up correctly
to send e-mail. To verify that e-mail is configured correctly, contact
your server administrator.

TIA
Tekraj
