can not copy from explorer and paste in word

I can NOT copy recipe(s) in explorer and then paste it to a word template
(created 4x6 index card template). My system just locks up. The clipboard
is NOT full. I use to be able to do this but now something went wrong. Any
help would be GREATLY appreciated.
