can not cut and paste from internet explorer to office 2000 word

When I try to cut and image from internet explorer to office 2000 word the
word program locks up and I have to restart the computer. Also, sometimes I
can't download a word doc from the internet and open it in office word 2000.
It locks up when I try to do this. Can you help me?
