Can not delete emails in outbox

I am running windows xp sp 1 and office xp sp2. I have
some emails that are stuck in my outbox and when I try to
delete them I get the following message: "the messaging
interface has returned an unkown error, restart outlook.
I have done this numerous times with no luck. I have
downloaded any and all updates for Office and Windows. I
have downloaded and installed the latest virus definitions
for Norton and performed a full scan with no virus found.
Emails that are stuck in the outbox are being sent to the
addressee's 150 times so far.

Please help.
