When I install the Personal Folders Backup add-in for Outlook 2003 I receive
the following error:

Setup has detected tht you already have a version of Personal Folders Backup
installed on this machine. before this dowload can be installed you must
first uninstall the previous version. To uninstall, please answer yest to the
next question.

I have followed the directions found in KB810932 and this is what I have
tried:
method 1 - in advanced options - com add-ins the backup tool check box is
already cleared.
I have tried click the check box on and restart. I have tried removing the
tool here and adding it back. I have tried removing the tool here and then
reinstalling from pfbackup.exe

method 2: extracting the .msi and installing from that resulted in the same
end result.

Help!

Have you checked Add/Remove Programs for MS Outlook Backup?
There is an uninstall utility, available from MS, that removes some items
not completely removed by this dialogue, however I cannot find the url, at
this point

Try removing the registry key
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Addins\Microsoft.OutlookBackup.1

Thats it! I have been wrestling with this problem on a couple of different
users machines for several months now. Thank you very much Brian!

Brian - I am having the same issue as David H (except that the PFbackup does
not appear in my add/remove programs/control panel) and when I saw this
posting I thought I'd found the solution. However, when I navigate to
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\ there is no Addins folder. Any
suggestions? Thanks, John
