Can not make MDE file from a converted Access 2003 database

H

Huaqi Yin

I have two database applications developed in Access 2000
on a Windows 2000 workstation. I tried to move them to a
XP workstation which has Access 2003 since all of our
workstations are required to upgrade to XP. I copied the
databases to a XP PC with Access 2003 installed and I
converted the databases from Access 2000 format to Access
2003 format. When I tried to ask the database to create
mde files for me, the error message popped up and
said "Access 2003 was not able to make a mde file". I
could make mde files on the developing workstation without
any problem. One of the two databases is really small, so
there should not be the problem of exceeding the limit of
2048 open table ID as Access 2003 specified.

I also tried to copy the databases to a Windows 2003
server and made MDE files from another windows 2000
workstation. It didn't work neither.

Can anybody offer suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

What is "Gunny"?
What is "69 Camaro"? (I prefer a Jaguar XK-8, which I'll never afford)

You seem pretty experienced. Do you run around the streets in a mask too?

Just interested. Not that it matters a damn. Ta, QBuilt.

Chris :)

Hi, Chris.
What is "Gunny"?

Gunny is short for Gunnery Sergeant, United States Marine Corps.
What is "69 Camaro"?

'69 Camaro is one of my favorite cars to cruise around in and to tinker
under the hood, because even Marines can afford an old Camaro. (I've owned
four.)
You seem pretty experienced.

I've always worked with the best professionals I could find. Their
experience and exceptional skills tend to rub off on others.
Do you run around the streets in a mask too?

No mask is necessary. Marines find that cammie utilities and cammie paint
are enough for camouflage and concealment. It's the Howitzers and Cobras
that are hard to hide. You can hear 'em, even if you can't see 'em.

Thankyou, "Gunny". Since I'm sold on a Jag XK8, why you could start a war
there!

It just adds a bit of spice to know something of the range of expertese
contributing to these ng's, yes. Besides, I've often wanted to collect the
combined firepower of Marines and USAF for some of my "non-conformant
customers" ;-)

I now know better than to meet you on a dark street :) And some idea where
you're coming from :))

Cheers
Chris

Hi, Chris.
It just adds a bit of spice to know something of the range of expertese
contributing to these ng's

Contributors come from all walks of life and many different industries, so
there's quite a range of expertise here. It's hard to picture what these
folks are like in real life when all one knows of them are the words printed
on a computer monitor. Perhaps it's like that cartoon about two Internet
chatters: the 50-ish woman with her hair in curlers is sitting in her robe
and bunny slippers, typing on her keyboard that she's a Supermodel, and the
bald guy with a big beer belly is sitting in his Skivvies typing on his
keyboard that he's a Chippendale's dancer. . . . Perhaps many are just
16-year-old teenage computer geeks. We'd never know.
Besides, I've often wanted to collect the
combined firepower of Marines and USAF for some of my "non-conformant
customers" ;-)

A command voice, an air of confidence, a no-nonsense attitude, and knowing
what one is talking about are usually enough to motivate potential
"non-conformant" customers to take their business elsewhere, so they'll
never be shown the "business end" of an M-16. The "E-Tool Policy" will take
care of the rest. ;-)
I now know better than to meet you on a dark street

You'll never even see me. When I'm in cammies in the dark, I look just like
all the other trees. ;-)
