can not open any office application files after patches applied

I uninstalled Office 2000 premium, did a hardware upgrade,
then re-installed office, sent it to get patches through
automatic windows update, and after it applies all the
available patches I can not open any doc, xls or any other
office application files. Anyone out there know how to
fix this PLEASE.....

I have the same problem, only with windows 98. As soon as
I did the upgrade, I was able to open a disk created on
wordpad,(which I couldn't open before the upgrade) but now
I can't open anything else. Looking forward to hearing
from someone SOON on this little glitch.

Are you running any Norton products?
