Can not open data files

I have a new laptop. My business contacts are restored on the new computer. I
was working with them for a few days. Then I put a password on my computer.
and a message came up do I want to protect all my files from being seen. I
said yes but no other dialog box asked for any other passwords. The next day
I went to open business contact manager and the pane shows no files. when I
go to manage my data files it does not allow me to connect to those files. I
think I did somthing to hide those files but now I cant retrive them. Any
help would be great.
