Thank you! Thank you, thank you.
At first I tried this and was unsuccessful but overnight something happened and this morning I was able to update.
did get one other really good piece of advice and that was: Open Macintosh Hard Drive.
-Open Users.
-Open Home (House).
-Open Library.
-Open Preferences (view "as List"
.
-Move to Trash all Preferences that start with "com.microsoft.*.*".
-Move Microsoft folder to Trash from Preferences also.
-Close to Desktop.
-Open Macintosh H D.
-Open Applications.
-Move Microsoft Office 2008 folder to Trash.
-Open Macintosh HD
-Open Library
-Open Application Support.
-Move Microsoft to the Trash.
-Close back to Desktop
-Open Macintosh HD
-Open Library
-Open Fonts.
-Move Microsoft to the Trash.
-Close back to Desktop
-Close to Desktop.
-Open Macintosh HD
-Open Library
-Open Receipts.
-Move all items that starts with "Office 2008" to the Trash.
-Close back to Desktop
-Close to Desktop.
-Remove all the Microsoft icons from the Dock.
-Empty Trash.
Only one problem with that. At no point does this tell me to save my Identity elsewhere so that I don't lose all that date.
I saved Identity to my Time Capsule and am finally up and runnig perfectly.
Once again Thank you.
