can not open files in new Beta TR release

Since installing the TR beta release for Office 2007 i get an error which
refers to the Microsoft Knowledge base article 835404 - asit says virus
scanner has detected a fault with the fle.
This is strange as the files were opened by the previous release.

If you are using Norton AV then go to Norton Options and in the
Miscellaneous section turn off "Enable Office Plug-in".

If you are not using Norton but it was previously installed then the
DLL for the plug-in could still be registered.

Search for officeav.dll and if found go to Start/Run and run the
following command:

regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\norton antivirus\officeav.dll"

In the above example the path for "Officeav.dll" would depend on the
location of the DLL.

Beth,

Thanks for the info. This worked like a charm.
Made my day!
However, a thought -- Would i need to renable this feature at a later date
when Office 2007 is released?

Thanks

You'll still be protected by Norton's AutoProtect layer if the plug-in
is turned off. The only thing the plug-in does that the AutoProtect
layer doesn't is scan for viruses on password protected/encrypted
documents. Most virus scanners don't hook into Office, for example
Norton Corporate Edition doesn't.

The Norton Plug-in has caused this issue and many other issues in
Office before so this isn't the first and I doubt it will be the last.
Personally, I have Norton AV and I leave it disabled. I only turn it
on for testing and troubleshooting purposes, such as for the Office
2007 beta. :)

After installing the Beta 2 TR, My Beta Excel would not open any of the
files I had created before the refresh, giving me an error message that my
antivirus (Norton) program had tagged the files as infected. I totally
uninstalled the Office Beta and reinstalled. This solved the problem. I do
not intend to try the Beta 2 TR untill I see some assurance that this
particular problem has been solved.
