You'll still be protected by Norton's AutoProtect layer if the plug-in
is turned off. The only thing the plug-in does that the AutoProtect
layer doesn't is scan for viruses on password protected/encrypted
documents. Most virus scanners don't hook into Office, for example
Norton Corporate Edition doesn't.
The Norton Plug-in has caused this issue and many other issues in
Office before so this isn't the first and I doubt it will be the last.
Personally, I have Norton AV and I leave it disabled. I only turn it
on for testing and troubleshooting purposes, such as for the Office
2007 beta.
