Can not Open Outlook 2007

Just installed Office Enterprise 2007 & sp2 on Windows XP/sp3 system. Prior
it installation I uninstalled Office Pro 97.

After launching Outlook and going through the configuration process(setting
up email procedure) I can no longer open Outlook.

When I launch Outlook I get an error message "Cannot open default e-mail
folders. Errors have been detected in the file C:\windows\outlook.pst. Quit
Outlook and all e-mall programs and use Inbox repair
tool(Scanpst.exe)------for more info see Help" When I click the OK Button
Outlook closes so Help is no option. When I extracted Scanpst.exe (had to
rename it because it extracted as an exe_0002 file) and launched it I got an
error message that it could not find olmapi32.dll. The last time I tried
it, it couldn't find scanpst32.dll and says that re-installing the
application may fix the problem(what application).

I tried repairing Office but no help.

I have very limited computer knowledge, and know nothing about Outlook(wife
uses it for her work) so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope this is the right forum for this question.

2 things are very wrong here.

1) Never EVER store your pst-file in the Windows directory. Store it in your
Documents folder or leave it as its default location (which is not the
Windows directory).

2) Where did you extract the scanpst.exe file from? There is no need to do
so at all. Scanpst.exe is installed in the directory where you installed
Office 2007. Probably here;
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\

At this point, locate your pst-file and move it to your My Documents folder.
Put it in a sub folder called Outlook if you want. Then run scanpst.exe to
scan it for errors and see if it is recoverable. Otherwise, restore from
backup.

Once repaired, start Outlook again, it will probably nag for the location of
the pst-file; point it to its new location.

If that doesn't work, the easies way would be to recreate your mail profile
as per;

Since the OP stated origonally Office 97, I think it might be prudent to
create a new Profile and add a new data file, prior to attempting to recover
the old data file, dont you think?

Well, the OP stated that it went to the email configuration process but it's
unclear what that actually meant. It could be creating a new mail profile or
upgrading the previous. I guess that at this point it will fail either way
hence I provided instruction to recreate it anyway :)

I didn't, all I did was put the cd in and let it install the office suite.
Then when I opened Outlook the first time a configuration window opened and
it had me enter name-email address-isp email password and that is all I've
done.

I believe I origionally found it in C\program files\common
files\system\msmapi\1003. When I tried to launch it a window automatically
poped up and asked where I wanted to extract it too so I extracted it too my
Desktop.

The only pst-file I have is archive.pst which is located in My Documents
I can't run scanpst.exe because of the "can't find the dll" problem.>

I believe I origionally found it in C\program files\common
files\system\msmapi\1003.

That's where it will be for Outlook 2003 and earlier. Outlook 2007 changed
the location.
The only pst-file I have is archive.pst which is located in My Documents

Open the Mail applet in Control Panel and click the Data Files button. That
will show you where all the PSTs Outlook is using reside.
