Can not open website w/Frontpage 2003

For some time now, I come across PCs that have a problem with Frontpage in
that it will not open websites for editing. The story is always the same,
bla bla bla we can't open this site because it might be protected with a
username or password bla bla bla... Well the dialog box never comes up for
username or password for the site to be entered.

HOWEVER, in most cases, If i create a NEW USER on the same PC, the site that
would not load previously, will load without problem.

I am guessing there is something that gets easilly damaged in the Windows
USER's folders..

Is there a way to fix a damaged windows user to where it will work again?

Hey, I encountered that and reinstalled Windows XP Pro because could not
figure out how to fix it. I just love it when KB articles say to contact the
Administrator and you are the Administrator! I noticed that there are many
google hits for this problem. I definitely believe you are right about
something gets damaged --or something maybe gets changed due to Windows
Update?

Hope the problem is resolved by Microsoft.

I agree, If Microsoft could figure out what folder it is that gets damaged
it should be easilly fixed. It seems to me, there was a special Temporary
folder in Frontpage that if deleted would reset Frontpage into thinking it
was a new install, and would recreate the default settings for it. I have
tried re-installing Frontpage but no luck that way because it didt remove
enough stuff.

For Future Reference to everyone on this, If you create a NEW USER in
Windows XP, it will fix the issue for the user you created. then you can
transfer all your bookmarks and info over to the new user ( Not the easiest
of tasks, but much faster than reinstalling Windows XP & everything else you
have installed.

In the meantime, I am going to experiment with copying over some of the
folders from the new working user to the old broken one..

Hope that makes sense to everyone.. If not, I can post details later if
requested...

Good Luck,
Bob

In FP 2003 Help - Detect & Repair you get that option
