Can not open word docs when e-mailed as an attachment

Joe

I belong to an organization where 10 of our officers need to
communicate frequently by e-mail. When our president sends a word
2004 for mac doc as an attachment 7 of us can open it. the other
three with windows versions just get the ascci code but they can not
open the doc. they are different versions of word one is an xp others
are in the 97 era.

I had the one with 2004 go into preferences and change the format to
an earlier version and it still won't work.
Any help on how we can get his to work would be appreciated

Thanks
Joe

I'm not sure if that's directly related to the problem, but incorrect
encoding might also prevent some people from opening attachments. If your
president needs to send attachments to both Mac and Windows users, he should
make sure that the attachments are encoded for "any computer (Apple
Double)". In Entourage 2004, that's Entourage>Preferences>Compose>Encoding.

It sounds to me like this is an email problem, not a Word problem. In
all probably the president is sending an .hqx-encoded attachment and the
Windows mail client does not know what to do with this. m.

Stuffit now can save in zip format. As well as OSX can create a zip
archive natively.

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!
