Can not open Word & Excel files in Office XP

M

Metin

When clicking to open any saved file a msg comes
saying "The file (name of the file) is not available".
After clicking to close, another msg appears saying:"The
file Normal already exists. Do you want to replace the
existing file?" If I click NO, a window appears,(that
usual window that appears when saving word files) with the
tittle: 'Save in': "Templates". Down that window, where
is: 'file name', it comes the word "Normal" and
after:"Save as type"it comes the phrase "Document
Template".If I save, it denies saying "The file Normal
already exists, do you want to replace the existing file?"
If one says NO finally all these msg disappears." I tried
to open my files of several ways, without success.

This is first time I was trying to open a document after
I've upgraded to Office XP from 2000. I also had msblaster
virus which I have cleaned completly. Thanks.

This may be a result of a conflict with the Norton Office Plug-in. See "OFF:
Cannot Open Office Documents or Cannot Edit Inserted Objects After You
Install Office XP Service Pack 2 or Office 2000 Service Pack 3 [KB328613]"
at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328613.

Whatever you do, don't save anything as Normal.dot. If you already have, see

Actually, all you had to do was this:

1. Open Norton AntiVirus (right-click on the Taskbar icon and choose this
option).

2. Click on the Options button at the top of the dialog.

3. In the Options dialog, click on Miscellaneous (menu on the left)

4. Clear the check box for "Enable Office Plug-in."

5. OK out and close NAV.

I hope you haven't uninstalled NAV, as you *need* an AV app running.

Dear Suzanne

Thank you for your help. I have cleaned all Symantec
(Norton) entries from the registery and problem solved.
Please don't ask me which entries because, there were
more than 600 of them. Best regards from sunny Turkey.

Have you tried disabling the Office Plug-in?
