Can not read å, ä and ö in some incoming messages?

I have Outlook 2007 (English). In some incoming messages the letters Åå, Ää
and Öö has disapered. They are replaced wih a empty space or a black square
with a white ? in the middle. I know that some of this messages are sent with
a Nokia N72 and Nokia E71 mobile phone. This do not happen when I send a
message to my self with Outlook 2007. This was not a problem when I used
Outlook 2003 (Swedish)

Sounds like an encoding issue to me. Verify that the messages with the
mobile phone with proper encoding information in the message header. To
manually overrule encoding information you can open the message and use
Other-> Actions-> Encoding
However, often the character information has been lost already so it will
have little effect.

Does the message display correctly when you look at it via your web based
inbox?

If it is correct there, it could be that the message got corrupted by a mail
scanning tool that you might have installed. Disable this integration and
request them to resend the message.

As Robert has already mentioned, this is an encoding problem. If the
sender does not specify the correct encoding (Western European, or
UTF8), then the receiving mail client cannot know what character set is
used in the message.

Local language email clients assume their own language for unspecified
incoming mail; that's why your Swedish version of Outlook recognized
incoming messages correctly.

Check if Outlook 2007 has an option to specify the default encoding for
incoming messages.
