Can Not select or see Contacts in Address Book

I tried posting this message about five hours ago. It hasn't shown up in the
board yet, so, I'll try again....
========================

In previous posts, I've noticed the instruction to go to the Contacts
Properties > Outlook Address Book tab and select "Show this folder as an
e-mail Address Book" option to have the contacts folder be accessible in the
address book. My problem is: when I go to the tab, EVERYthing is greyed out.
I cannot select the option. When I click on the "Use addresses from... "
drop-down, it is completely empty. However, my Contacts folder is populated
and I can see my contacts fine inside the folder.

I've tried the following to see if they'd fix the problem:
1. repairing my Outlook.pst using SCANPST.exe...no,
2. repairing Office XP via the install disk...no,
3. re-installing Office XP completely.....no,
4. opening up / adding a copy of my Outlook.pst from last week (when
address book WAS working).....
5. then changing the default mail folder to that pst....no,
6. copying the above pst from last week over top of the current
pst.....nope. :-(

All of the above were tried seperately with Outlook closed, except for #4 &
5, of course..... and then the address book was checked before I closed
Outlook & tried the next possible cure. Alas... none of the above corrected
the problem.

Can anyone help this poor soul get his address book/contacts working
properly????
