Can not start Outlook 2003

I recently upgraded from Office 97 to Office 2003. All programs seem to work
fine except Outlook. When I start Outlook, a dialog box states..."Migrating
account settings, Migrating preferences, Creating welcome messages, Importing
data"

Then I get another dialog box that states..."Your Microsoft Exchange Server
is unavailable" If I pick the "retry" button, it gives me the same thing.
If I select either of the other two (Work Offline, or Cancel) I get booted
from the program entirely.

Any suggestions how to get around this "feature" and configure my server,
etc., manually?

Thanks for any help.

Are you using an Exchange server? If not, go to control panel->mail
icon->email accounts and remove the Exchange service and install your
Internet Mail account.
