Can not turn off "new email" sound notification

B

Bill Weylock

About a month ago, after using Entourage with no problems for years, I had
the bright idea of turning on notifications for new email arrivals to see
how I liked it.

It was okay for a while, but I got tired of the interruptions. So I
unchecked the little box and figured that was it and all about it.

Nope. I still get the notification tones when new email arrives.

I no longer get them for each and every email, but I get them occasionally.

Will life go on if I can¹t solve this? Yeah.

But it¹s annoying and an obvious malfunction.

It survived a complete rebuild of my database, and throwing away the plist
made no dent in it either.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

(and wouldn¹t it be cool to be able to get notifications if someone answers
this posting???)

Best,

- Bill

Forgot to add that I have the .9 update installed.

Did you look in the rules and Mailing List Manager to see if there are any
"Play sound" actions or "Run AppleScript" actions with AppleScripts that
play sounds?

If that doesn't work, try creating a new identity, turning off the
preference for sounds, and seeing if they still play in that identity.

I don¹t have any applescripts that play sounds.

What do I do if the new identity doesn¹t play sounds? I have massive
preferences, rules, and archives under this identity.

Ha!

After giving you the ohsosmart reply, I decided maybe I had just better
double check.

Sure enough! I had somehow inadvertently added a ³play sound² event to one
of the main rules.

Thanks, Mickey! Much appreciated. So often the most annoying things have the
simplest solutions!

You can create a rule like this:

Subject contains <enter the subject you want notification>

Run AppleScript Sound (select sound)

OR.... you could use the visual response. Flag the message you send and this
will help identify your thread when there is a reply. Another visual way is
to use Categories to color your messages so you can easily see replies.
