Can not update or uninstall Microsoft Office 2003

Now I now can not update or uninstall Microsoft Office 2003 under Windows
XP.

Both the update and the the uninstall attempt look for some information in
C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\Cabs\512137\

I think that at some point I may have deleted the contents of that directory
by selecting
Office Setup Files
during an over-enthusiatic Disk Cleanup.

Is that why I have this problem?

How do I resolve this without wiping my C drive and reinstalling all
software again?

Thanks...

Is anyone listening? Others have raised similar similar problems on this
list.

I am quite prepared to reinstall, if only I could uninstall the !@!@!?...

Thanks...

I found a program from microsoft that allows you to clean up your install
information, making it possible to RE-Install Office.
Unfortunately, I did have to reinstall and re download all of the upgrades.
but it took less that 2 hours start to finish.

As I understand it, the windows installer cleanup utility (available at the
bottom of the page the link below links to) does not remove the files from
the harddrive, rather it removes the installation information, so windows in
effect doesn't think its been installed. You may the reinstall without errors
about .msi files missing. YOU MUST REINSTALL TO THE SAME DIRECTORY AS BEFOR
TO AVOID DUPLICATE FILES. Anywho, heres the link that saved me.

That worked, as advertised. All my settings were preserved. Simple and
painless.

You're a gem HeDRoX!
