Can not update SharePoint list

Using Access 2003, I am attempting to update a WSS 2.0 list with data from a
separate Sybase db. I was able to append data initially, and now I am trying
to Update by joining the key fields between the linked WSS List and a query
that combines several linked Sybase tables. I get "Operation must Use
Updatable Query" error. Any ideas what I can do to get this work?

I just discovered that the update works when there is only one field, but
when I add more than one column from the WSS list, I get the error message.
