Can Office 2003 & 2007 co-exist?

They can coexist with some catches. Outlook can exist in only one
version (2003 or 2007). Access 2003 and 2007 will fight over the file
extension whenever you switch between them, Word will do the same, but
there is a regkey to stop that for Word.
Are you developing with VSTO or what else?

All I need is office & excel for 2007. And no VSTO - we use IExtensibility
both because we have to work back to Word 2000 and because I haven't heard of
anyone being successful with VSTO for a shrink-wrap product.

Hi;

I have Office 2003 on my system. Is it safe to install Office 2007 also and
be able to test my AddIn on each? At present I have Office 2007 on a virtual
machine to test it but that is getting to be a pain.

I am running that configuration, but my development work is 2007 only.
Developing for 2007 works for sure. I don't think though that there are
any problems in turns of being able to debug or develop 2003 stuff when
you have 2007 installed.

Hi;

What's the regkey setting to stop the 2 version of Word from fighting over
the extension?

Do you mean Word and Excel? I have both 2003 and 2007 of Word and Excel
coexisting on my machine for the same kind of COM testing. No
particular problems. Every time I run either Word version after running
the other the startup takes a minute or so to check things, and it takes
over the .doc extension again.

Word only has this issue. You have to decide whether you want 2003 or
2007 to own the doc extension. If you want 2007 to have it, make sure it
was the last one you open before setting the reg key.
Use the NoRereg key for whichever version you don't want to register.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options

Add a DWORD named NoRereg set to 1

What do I need to do to have Excel 2003 used instead of Excel 2007when I
double-click an XLS file? I need to make 2003 the default (excel, work,
access, project).

Thanks, -Pat D.
