can one have silent reminders as default?

Something in the automatic creation of recurring alarms must be badly
broken in Outlook, esp. when they have associated alarms that should go
off more than a few hours before the actual event!

E.g. I would like to have alarms 12 hours before certain all-day events
like e.g. certain birthdays. One would assume, that 12 hours before an
all-day event means noon the day before. But not so! Outlook keeps
pestering me with such alarms in the middle of the night: 2 o'clock am,
4 o'clock am, you name it. It appears to be somewhat random but it
regularly leads to major crises in the relation with my better half, if
such an alarm goes off while we sleep!

Thus I would prefer in future to define my reminders WITHOUT sound, i.e.
visual reminders only! Since always having to bring up the soundfile
selection dialog and unchecking sounds is pretty tedious my question:
can one somehow make visible alerts the default? I.e. if I want to have
an alarm WITH sound I want to explicitly set it, but if I specify
nothing (i.e. just check the reminder checkbox) it should be a purely
visible, but not audible alert.

Hi Michael,

You can try this:

1.) In Outlook, click Tools
2.) Click Options
3.) Click the Other tab
4.) Click Advanced Options
5.) Click Reminder Options
6.) Uncheck Play reminder sound

Hope this helps
