Can only copy to clipboard if an Office program is open!

Hi there -- this issue started recently---when I am in any
program OTHER THAN an Office program and I try to copy
something to my clipboard, then open an Office program to
paste the info into that program, it shows there is
nothing in my clipboard! That never used to happen. eg:
Only OE is open; I copy the body of an email, then open
MSWord to paste that email into a document...but when I
open MSWord, the "paste" function is grayed out. When I
click on view/toolbars/clipboard, it too is empty...what
gives?

This issue is new -- I've always been able to copy to my
clipboard from anywhere and then open another program to
then paste copied info -- but no longer -- any clues out
there?

FYI -- forgot to mention I've got Windows 2000 and MSWord
2000...
