Can only see the MS checkered flag in clip organizer

While downloading a few new clips from the MS website, it told me I needed to
install ActiveX controls (I think that was it). After doing that, I can only
see the Microsoft checked flag in my clip organizer. I have to click on each
clip and insert it in my Publisher document in order to see it. I can't see
the actual pictures in my clip organizer, only the MS checkered flag.
