can project fill in actual work for the future in resource usage v

I have a project where twe have been tracking actuals and we have noticed
that there are some actual work entries in the actual work field now when
looking at a resource usage view. We don't think that we entered these
values but we can not be sure. The entries contain values like 18.33 and
28.67 and not values like 18.25 or 28.75, which we would normally enter.
Therefore the suspicion is that these entries have been calculated by
project. Can and does this happen in project? If so, how does it happen and
why does it happen? We are new to using project and it does not act the same
way as our previous tool so we are a little mystified. Also is there a good
book that explains in depth the results that can be seen in all of these
different views?

Thanks

Hi Tom

if you set a % completed figure on a task project will fill in a calculated
Actual Work figure - could this be what happened ... oh, it will also happen
if you enter a "actual finish date"

Thanks Julie. It turns out that an "actual finish date" was entered and this
caused the actual work dates in the future to be entered. It also marked the
task complete which I had not noticed.

No I've have not read Mike Glen's series of tutorials yet, but it is on my
list to do so.
