Here is the request I received from a fireman requesting
assistance with these two programs. I am not skilled in
this area and appreciate any assistance you can provide.
I have a document with information but am not able to
attach it here. If anyone is interested in viewing, I
can send to you directly. Thank you so much for your
assistance.
NOTE FROM FIREMAN:
"We currently use a software called "firehouse" for
tracking payroll, personnel, equipment, staff activities,
hydrants, training, etc., etc.... Unfortunately, it does
not perform what I'd like it to and am using Quicken and
Excel programs together. I currently use a Quicken
program to track all employees vacation, sick, comp, and
holiday time. It's not perfect, but it beats the hand
ledger used by the person previously in charge of this.
Anyway, we're anticipating a change in our current sick
time policy via contract negotiations. Instead of simply
tracking time earned and used, we will have to track
hours and the current dollar value of each hour as it's
accumulated. Currently, all hours accumulated and their
dollar value is irrelevant because they are tied to an
employees hourly rate upon separation. The proposed
system requires me to annually bank hours and track their
then current dollar value. (this allows an employee to
use banked hours if they exhaust what they've earned for
a particular year.) So, I have to know the dollar value
of each hour because sick time is used on a last in,
first out basis. Referring to the proposed "future
benefit bank" system.
The bottom line is I started to lay out a spread sheet
using Microsoft Excel to see if it would be easier than
Quicken. Attached is a sample for you to take a look at
which should help provide you with our needs. You should
be able to see what I'm trying to accomplish along with
the particular formulas in specific cells. Really what I
need the most is for it to automatically perform basic
tasks like posting sick hours on the first of the month
for each employee. (Quicken does this for me)
