can receive mail but not send (Office 2003)

We have a small peer to peer LAN of 9 computers and a stand alone computer
running Windows 2000 being used like a server. Have just changed one
compters over for a new one running Windows XP Pro and Office 2003. The new
computer sees all the orhers on the network, can access the "server computer"
and is able to receive mail but cannot send mail. The operation fails each
time and the warning box has the following message "The operation failed. An
object could not be found". Any help gratefully received.
