can send but not receive emails

on the test page everything gets completed except the log in for incoming
mail...i can send but I tested trying to receive messages but nothing was in
my inbox. It says that my server doesnt accept my userid and password but it
is already set up in the system and it all matches up. What can I do to fix
the problem?
