Can send but not receive emails

Hello:

Cannot find the answer in your NG. I can send emails but cannot receive them
from Outlook 2003. While I am waiting, there is a small envelope on the
lower right telling me that it is synchronizing its folders. This is the
only computer, running Windows XP. I am using the Microsoft antispyware
beta. have removed it but still no joy. These are the errors.

Task 'MSN - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed
out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue
to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP).'

Task 'pop.central.cox.net - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The
operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server.
If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator
or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Thanks,

Berto

Hi Berto,

There could be a few different reasons for this...

I have receved this message when before when I incorrectly put the wrong pop
server address and it was looking for a server that did not exist.

Follow these steps to check your settings...

1) click <tools> and then <e-mail accounts>

2) in the e-mail accounts wizard screen, make sure that the "view or change
the existing e-mail accounts" option is selected and then click the <Next>
button

3) in the next screen select your e-mail account and then click the <change>
button

4) under server information check that the incoming mail server (POP3) is
exactly the same as provided by your ISP (if you don't have the Pop3
information that you need, try going to your ISP's web page as normally it is
posted there)

5) in the in the same screen click the <Test Accounts Settings> Button

6) in the pop-up window that appears it will turn you whether outlook has
been able to successfully can contact that Pop3 server.

If you are sure that the Pop three settings are correct but you are still
not able to receive any messages it could be that your username all password
are incorrect.

1) back in the Internet e-mail settings Pop 3 window, check that your
username is correct

2) in the past word text box try re-entering your password and then click
<Test Accounts Settings> button again.

How long have you been having this problem, it could be that you ISP mail
server has also gone offline temporarily, although this is least likely.

I hope this helps, please let me know how it turned out.

Thanks for the advice. It did not work however. This is strange since I
switch to Outlook Express as the email program and the emails get sent and
received. I have tried to redo(create a new) email outlook but no joy. Is
there something other than reinstalling?
