You haven't given us much details to help. Here are the basics:

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption.

It could be a bad message, server problems but without more info we could
only guess.

There's one suggestion on the forum to used smtp port 587 instead of 25 and still doesnot work.

Thanks for the reply, FYI I have google every possible solution in the
entourage forum before i posted this issue and still give me this error " An
operation on the server timed out,The server may be down, overloaded or there
may be too much net traffic".

The error could mean exactly what it says. What type account? Is this for
all messages?

You can also try
518
534
576

You can view your network traffic to see what is failing.

EavesDrop....Let it capture some stuff then double-click any of the lines of
text in the main window to see more detail.

Another application is tcpflow:

Test your network with tcpflow. See directions here:

This could be a couple of things.

First, are you sure you should be using the same server address
internally (at work) and externally (at home)?

You may need to add a proxy exception for your server or work network.
You can do this in Apple menu --> System Preferences... --> Network -->
<your network connection> --> Proxies.

In the "Bypass proxy settings" field enter the full name of your server
such as server.domain.com. Or you could just enter *.domain.com for all
servers on your company network.

Hope this helps!

Ah, even more new info from you. It really helps when you provide a clear
description of your problem. I am running this past someone that is familiar
with work servers and will get back.

Do you have an Exchange account that you use at work?
